In my case I had nothing on my PC nowhere, because I literally formatted the disk and installed a fesh windows, the only thing I could do was try to get them out of the cloud sync. Right now I just got my latest save, well not really the latest but 1-2 hours before and I'll take that. Glad you were able to fix it, yeah it is a pretty depressing thought losing all that progress and time investment. like you i too have a lv99 character with everything in the game done, as well as a bunch of store content bought, so the scare definitely made me make backups in case it happens again. so i located where my cloud saves backups were actually stored on my PC, copied them to the same location the game was trying to load saves from and it worked. my problem was that since cloud saves wouldn't work i had to rely on local saves but the game couldn't find them in the locations it was trying to load them from. just like you i didn't think to make a copy of my saves that i do with all other games because, well, cloud, which is thought to be full-proof until something like this happens. i just gotta say that happened to me recently as well, but my issue was due to my PC crashing for unrelated reason. I found some stuff on the Ubisoft pages about looking in your save folder and wait for files to appear (they disaapear later) and move them back.

I would like to continue playing but no clue how to actually get my saves to work. If I boot the game it created a new save and after closing and booting it up again I can pick between the just created save, and the save from the cloud (which shows the latest date I actually played, making me believe the safe is in the cloud just fine). It says "There was a problem getting your latest save game file from the cloud, the most recent available data may not be your current save". I try to download it from the cloud but it does not work. I installed odyssey on a clean computer and wanted to continue my save file.
